| Steve's Web Journal Tips and Tricks: Adding a Cursor to your Journal | |
| Adding a spiffy new cursor to your page is a relatively easy process. However, you need a special cursor file (it ends in a .cur extension) for a static cursor, or a .ani extension (for an animated cursor). PLEASE NOTE: Custom cursors do not work with all browsers. They work with Microsoft Internet Explore 6.0+. You can create your own cursor files with a Cursor creating program. Do a google search for 'cursor creator' or 'cursor editor' to find a good program. You want one that will Import jpgs or gifs, and allows the use of millions of colors. Once you have a .cur image uploaded to your webspace, you will need to add it to your Journal. Let's install your new cursor: Login to your member account, click on the Web Journal service manager link, click on the Look and Feel Editor link: You will go to a page which shows you a tabbed editting box for your Journal Header. Click on the Text tab and you will be presented with the Visual/Code Editor input box: Click on the Code Editor tab at the top of the editor and insert the basic HTML code for your cursor. Here is the code you need to use: <STYLE TYPE="text/css"> p {align=justify} BODY{cursor: url(http://www.yoursite.com/cursors/sample.cur);} a {cursor: url(http://www.yoursite.com/cursors/sample.cur);} </STYLE> Replace the sample url you see there, with the actual url for your .cur file, save your changes and you are done! NEW: We've created some fun cursors (static and animated) that you can download here! You will need Winzip or other un-zipping utility to open the .zip file. Once the cursor files are un-zipped and on your computer, you can upload them to your webspace. Enjoy! | |
