| Steve's Journal Tips and Tricks Using the Visual Editor | |
| The Bravenet Visual Editor is our standard editor box for many of our services (hosting, journals, etc). The Visual Editor is presented in tandem with a basic text editor that we call the Code Editor, however the Visual Editor is not a text editor, it functions in much the same way as a Word Processor, like Microsoft Word.
This tutorial will cover the basics of effectively using the Visual Editor to format your text entries.
Changing Font Face and Size
Step 1: First we need to open the Visual Editor box (in any of your services, they all work the same). Once the box is open type in the text you wish to add to your service. In the screenshot below I have entered some sample text.
Step 2: Highlight the text you wish to format by left clicking your mouse (hold the mouse button down) and dragging your mouse over your text.:
Step 3: Once the text is highlighted, you can now select a formatting tool to apply to the text you highlighted. In this example we want to change the displayed Font of the text. I would like to change the text in my first paragraph to the Comic Sans font.
Step 4: Now all of the text in my first paragraph has been changed to the Comic Sans MS Font. Lets highlight the second sample paragraph and see if we can change the text so it appears really large. First we have to highlight the second paragraph.
Step 5: Then we select the Font Size drop down list and, in this case, select the size of +2.
Step 6: You will see your text grow or shrink depending on what size option you select here. In our sample, the text size we selected is quite large.
Creating A Link To A Webpage
Step 1: To Create a Hyperlink (or just a 'link') to another webpage, first type in the text you want people to click on. Then highlight the text you want to be clickable.
Step 2: Click on the Link button in the Editor toolbar, and a special dialog box will appear and prompt you to type in the web address of the page you want to link to.
Step 3: Type in the URL in the provided box and click the 'OK' button.
Step 4: Your text will change color and become clickable once you have Saved the page correctly.
Applying Formatting To Your Text
Step 1: 'Formatting' means applying various styles to your text. The Visual Editor allows you to apply Bolding, Underlining, Italics to your text. For our first step, we just highlight the text we want to apply our formatting to.
Step 2: Click on the Bold icon in the Visual Editor toolbar and the text you selected will be displayed as Bold.
Step 3: Now that we have some text in Bold format, let's also add some Italics to the mix. First we highlight the text we want to apply the Italics to.
Step 4: Then click on the Italics button in the Visual Editor toolbar, and viola, there you have text nicely italicized.
Step 5: Finally, now that we have figured out how to make things Bold and Italicized, lets make the overall font size of the entire paragraph a bit bigger so it is easier to read. As usual, our first step is to highlight the text we want to make changes to, so we would highlight the whole paragraph.
Step 6: Then select the dropdown list of Font Sizes you want to choose from.
Step 7: And there you have it, very large easy to read text with the Bolding and Italics intact and looking good...:)
Those are the basic steps for using the Visual Editor to format text the way you would like it to appear! | |
